Life Hacks

Oh, this is good. Cory Doctorow, author of the soon-to-be-at-the-library-book Little Brother has posted instructions for really useful life skills over at http://www.instructables.com/. Find jewels like:
  • how to lie to authority figures

  • how to encrypt your Gmail

  • how to block/kill RFID chips

and more. Enjoy...

Edward Withdrawal

So, it's been, like, a week already since you finished Eclipse for the fourth time.
Edward is perfection. Your love for him is undying.
You can never read another book again.
Until Breaking Dawn comes out, of course.
Which you have marked on your calendar. Decorated with hearts.

But now you're maybe a little bit bored. You're eying up Twilight for the fifth time around, but you know your mom is going to freak out if she sees you reading it - again.

The solution: Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. True, Seth will never be Edward (perfect, perfect Edward), but he does have his own, rather delectable, charm. Maybe this will get you through the next couple of weeks. Until you begin obsessively counting down the days to August 2...

Any other suggestions to get your fellow worshippers through this trying time?

It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen

Best first lines from novels.

Best last lines from novels.

My first line personal favourite:

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a
good fortune, must be in want of a wife. (from Jane Austen's Pride and
Prejudice
)

btw - "It was a cold day in April..." is from George Orwell's 1984.

Finally!

I've finally got my hands on Plain Janes, which I've been waiting for for months! I snagged it off the Graphic Novel display we've got going on this week in the Teen Department.

Any favourites to suggest?
